Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football with volunteer work in the community. Selmon is the youngest of children from Lucious Selmon, and Jessie Semon. They raised him on the family farm near Eufala. He was also one of three siblings who represented Oklahoma on the field of football. All three became All-America. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. In the three years that Roy played as a player, Oklahoma won two National Championships. In 1975, Selmon was awarded his third scholarship and was recognized as the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon obtained a degree as an educator. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week throughout his college years. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers for nine seasons before becoming an all-pro. He also began his career in the field of business. By 1988 he had become an Account Relation Officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked on the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder that Lee Roy was honored when the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as among the most prominent young people in America. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and stood at a height of 6'2 inches. In his time at college, he was the captain of the team of 1975. He joined University of South Florida in 1993 as an Associate Director of Sports. He was named associate director of athletics by the College Football Hall of Fame was named for the player in the year 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame In 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame In 1995. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented its Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma presented it.
